About: 

Red Oak Country is a new Central Coast dance band focused on performing classic ’80s and ‘90s country music hits by artists such as Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Dwight Yoakam, Alabama, Brooks and Dunn, Garth Brooks, and many more.

The band is: Ed Miller (guitar and vocals), Bill Wolf (drums and vocals), Mike Dias (bass and vocals), and Mike Hopkins (steel guitar and guitar).

Miller, Wolf, and Dias are also current members of Central Coast ‘60s rock, pop, and soul band, Unfinished Business. Hopkins has had extensive experience performing locally and as a studio musician since the early ‘70s.

The Scottish-born singer-songwriter has released nearly 20 introspective and lyrically powerful records featuring brilliant backing musicians (Jimmy Page, Phil Collins, Richard Thompson, Peter White, etc.). His biggest platinum successes, Year Of The Cat and Time Passages, were released in 1976 & 1978 respectively. He’s had several top 20 singles, including the above-mentioned titles, as well as “On the Border” and “Song On The Radio.”

In Al’s own Words: “I’m just a folk singer that is interested in history and wine that got lucky with some hit records!  It’s as simple as that really. I was always a huge music fan and originally, I had wanted to be Brian Jones and then Bob Dylan, but those two jobs were already taken. And in many ways, I’m still pretty much the same troubadour that I was back in 1965. I still get a kick out of hearing the Zombies, Hendrix or They Might be Giants on the radio.”

Weird Cry Records in Ojai have released two archival recordings of this Chicago Guitar Ensemble. The SLO Guitar Ensemble will be presenting 'Music for 12 Guitars', lead by Abraham Gibson.

The San Luis Obispo Vocal Arts Ensemble is celebrating 48 amazing years of making beautiful choral music for audiences in San Luis Obispo County and around the world! In honor of our beloved Gary Lamprecht, founder and musical director of Vocal Arts Ensemble, the concert series will conducted by Melody Svennungsen featuring a rousing selection of Gary’s favorite songs accompanied by Judy Robertson.  

Our spring concerts will kick off the season in style bringing hope and joy to audiences of all ages. The shows are a wonderful treat for the whole family. Thursday, May 2nd at Trilogy Monarch Dunes in Nipomo at 7:00 pm. and Saturday, May 4th at 3:00 pm at the Cuesta Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $30 and $10 for children 12 and under. Parking is free at the Cuesta and Trilogy shows.

A World-Class Ensemble

For over 48 years, the Vocal Arts Ensemble has been regarded as a community treasure of California’s central coast, regularly entertaining audiences with a variety of concerts in and around San Luis Obispo County.  The singers memorize all the words to each song and practice weekly. The group has also become highly regarded beyond our shores, winning friends, acclaim, and awards in international choral festivals.  Tours have included the British Isles, Russia, Poland, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Argentina, Uruguay, Sweden, Italy, France, Norway, Spain and Canada. 

Over the years, numerous singers with Vocal Arts have also been successful professional performers.  Others are dedicated amateurs who may be seen performing a variety of noteworthy “day jobs” in the community.  The group’s founder, Gary Lamprecht, was a well-known and inspiring teacher, leader, and visionary in the world of choral music, and who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award from the American Choral Director's Association. 

 From the late Gary Lamprecht: 
The English composer, John Rutter is one of the most performed composers of choral musician the world.  In this “Gary’s Favorites” concert we are doing two Rutter pieces.  

The “Cloths of Heaven” is a beautifully arranged composition by the great Irish poet,  William Butler Yeats.  “Esto Les Digo” is a prayer in Spanish.  Next the women of Vocal Arts will dance while performing Huddie Lebetter’s “Bring Me Little Water, Silvy”.  Morten Lauridsen is also a popular composer.  We will be doing two of his compositions .All in all, this is a Vocal Art variety concert with at least a few songs you will like.  I love them!

We are presenting two concerts, each in a beautiful setting. We invite you to join us for one both of these great shows:

Grateful for the opportunities, they have played on festival stages, concert venues and club stages all across the Golden State. The Cambria Community Chorale is thrilled to announce our upcoming Spring Concert, “One Voice.”   With great enthusiasm, we come together with one voice.  Our Music Director, Ron Perry, has chosen some amazing tunes from our extensive music library for our songbook.  From “Simple Gifts” to “For Good” from “Wicked,” to name just a few.  There will be a variety of ballads that will surely get your attention.  We’ll also join together for a bit of “Java Jive”, that you won’t want to miss.  A favorite of many of the Chorale as part of our songbook is “You Are the New Day.”  The men of the Chorale and a few of the ladies will be performing in Barbershop style, “Coney Island Baby”.   But we didn’t forget about the rest of the ladies in the Chorale.  As an added treat, the ladies' ensemble will sing “How Can I Keep from Singing.”

Central Coast Americana artist Ynana Rose headlines the next Cayucos Backyard Show on Sunday May 19. Show begins at 2pm. We'll send you the address and more details after you buy tickets.

Ynana Rose captivates audiences with her unique blend of the traditions of American roots music, penning songs threaded with folk, country, blues & jazz influences while reaching for new horizons in her writing. A versatile singer, Ynana sings of the joy and heartbreak of living in a rich, soulful voice. “Under A Cathedral Sky'' is Ynana's third full length album, comprising eleven original songs.  She says, “This album is about facing fear & creating beauty from it. These are songs written at the crossroads of midlife: songs of assessment, of crisis, of unraveling…and also dancing, whiskey & dating.”

Ynana has performed at the Cambria Center for the Arts, Live Oak Music Festival, Parkfield Bluegrass Festival, SLO Brew, and Sensorio: Field of Light.

Join us for A Musical Spring, featuring classical and contemporary works for violin and piano presented by Rhapsody Duo.  Violinist Brynn Albanese and pianist Ian Scarfe have collaborated for years up and down the California coast. The program will offer a selection of their repertoire's most popular and lively highlights.  Musical selections will include Beethoven's "Spring" Sonata, Piazzolla's "Primavera", Amy Beach's "Romance", and Lili Boulanger's "Nocturne."  Popular works from John Williams' Sabrina and other fun, contemporary works will round out the program.  Albanese and Scarfe are charismatic performers and will share stories and anecdotes with the audience about the history and context of the music.

This is a benefit concert for San Luis Coastal Unified School District Music programs. All proceeds will be donated to support student participation in instrumental and vocal music classes in San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, and Los Osos high schools and middle schools.
