Patio Club is the pandemic-formed rock and soul project led by LA’s Dustbowl Revival frontman Z. Lupetin. With no way to tour or share new songs during lockdowns, the prolific Lupetin brought together a talented group of friends including Lashon Halley (vocals), Chad Richard (electric guitar) and Nick Phakpiseth (bass) to play in the only place live music was allowed – his tiny backyard.
Centered around Halley and Lupetin’s fiery harmonies, the group was inspired by the kinetic protests and rallies they attended in 2020. Dozens of soulful and pointed songs flowed from the secret jam sessions held on Lupetin’s patio each Friday (the cops were only called once), resulting in a forthcoming EP recorded at the legendary Sound Factory studio in Hollywood – where Marvin Gaye laid down “What’s Going On”.
Albert and His Dreamboats Welcoming you in with the gregarious porch-hang manifesto Cheap Beer and fare-thee-welling on the post-romantic I Don’t Love You, Albert and His Dreamboats’ debut album Glad We Spent the Time effortlessly pairs high musicianship with lyrical wit in an odd brand of honky tonk that is half Roger Miller, half Frank Zappa, and kissed all over by the Southern Californian sun.
