SLO Tribute to John Denver & Cass Elliot
She was a Mama, in the Mamas & The Papas, known for her soaring harmonies on "California Dreamin'" and "Monday Monday". He was the voice of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, whose anthem "Take Me Home Country Roads" became an American standard. John Denver & Cass Elliot crossed paths at least once, on a duet of Denver's hit, "Leavin' on a Jet Plane". Songwriters at Play presents a tribute to their music on Sat. May 17, performed by local and touring artists. Show begins at 7pm at Humdinger in San Luis Obispo. Tickets are on sale now ($20 general admission) at my805tix.com
Performers include San Luis Obispo's own Bob & Wendy, Cambria's Deborah McHenry, and Jason Lopez; the duo called The InVocations, from Goleta; and SoCal singers Ann-Marita, Mike Berman, and Lisa Crawley.
Host Steve Key has appeared at Humdinger many times, as host of the monthly songwriters showcases, and several tribute concerts, including John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, Nanci Griffith, Chris Stapleton, and Brandi Carlile.
