Our natural calm and mental clarity is being exponentially challenged by a seemingly-endless stream of disturbing media. Meditation offers an escape, a vacation from reactive thinking and feelings.

There are many forms of meditation. Please join us in experiencing an emerging form, musical meditation, resting our minds, going inward, and being refreshed for our journeys.

ABOUT BENNARDO-LARSON DUO

The Bennardo-Larson Duo is an NYC/Stockholm-based contemporary classical duo committed to the performance and promotion of forward- thinking works for violin and piano. Comprised of Maya Bennardo (violin) and Karl Larson (piano), the duo is dedicated to aesthetically diverse programming that illuminates new repertoire for their instrumentation alongside intrepid works from the past.

The Bennardo-Larson Duo was formed in 2016 when they undertook the task of learning and performing Charles Ives’s complete works for violin and piano, which they presented on their annual ‘Ives of March’ concerts from 2017-2019. Since then, the duo has steadily built a repertoire of pre-existing and newly-commissioned works for violin and piano.

ABOUT RALF SCHMID / PYANOOK:

Ralf Schmid, pianist and composer is representative of an innovative generation of genre-defying musicians. He has worked with such diverse artists as Herbie Hancock, Daniel Hope or Whitney Houston in Europe, Asia and and Latin America. Schmid wrote award-winning scores for big bands, choirs and orchestras as well as the music theater "A DISTANT DRUM“, premiered at Carnegie Hall / New York.

As a pianist, Ralf Schmid expands the grand piano with electronically generated sound variations, seeks innovation and colorfulness also as an instrumentalist. He created the futuristic piano recital PYANOOK, a spacey grand piano-electro setup in which he controls sounds with data gloves, among other things. Concerts have taken him to festivals around the world. Ralf Schmid is professor for jazz piano at the University of Music Freiburg, Germany.

ABOUT GHOST ENSEMBLE:

Ghost Ensemble creates experimental music that expands our perceptual horizons through shared immersive experience. Blurring borders of genre, style, and scene, the ensemble collaborates widely with creators of contemporary chamber music, avant-garde jazz, and sound art, amplifying underrepresented, highly original musical voices to explore the most innovative and exciting music of our time. The ensemble’s recent collaborators have included Marguerite Brown, Sarah Davachi, Catherine Lamb, James Ilgenfritz, Sky Macklay, Miya Masaoka, Phill Niblock, Pauline Oliveros, Ben Richter, Teodora Stepančić, Lester St. Louis, and Yasunao Tone.

Pauline Oliveros was a composer, accordionist, humanitarian, electronic music pioneer, and founder of Deep Listening. Her career spanned sixty years of boundary-dissolving music making. In the 1950s she was part of a circle of iconoclastic composers, artists, poets gathered together in San Francisco; in the 1960s she influenced American music profoundly through her work with improvisation, meditation, electronic music, myth, and ritual. Among her many recent awards were the William Schuman Award for Lifetime Achievement and the John Cage Award from from the Foundation of Contemporary Arts. Oliveros was Distinguished Research Professor of Music at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Darius Milhaud Artist-in-Residence at Mills College.
