We will discuss the development of organic agriculture and developments in regenerative agriculture. We will start with a brief history of organic agriculture in the USA, from core concepts developed from 1940-1990 and culminating in the USDA National Organic Program in 2002. We will conclude with a discussion of where organic agriculture may be heading as well as the rapidly evolving concepts surrounding “regenerative agriculture.”
Dr. Matthew J. Grieshop is the director of the Grimm Family Center for Organic Production and research at Cal Poly and has worked in organic and sustainable agriculture for > 20 years. Prior to joining Cal Poly, Grieshop served Michigan State University as the Organic Pest Management Specialist for 14 years.. Matt received his doctorate from Kansas State University, MS from Montana State University, and bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
