Creek Lands Conservation is thrilled to invite you to a special event celebrating a significant achievement in their conservation:
Steelhead trout are the backbone of thriving ecosystems and communities. When Steelhead trout thrive, so do countless fish, wildlife, and plant communities. They are vital to our local ecosystems, and their absence can lead to a ripple effect of ecological degradation. For local communities, healthy ecosystems are the foundation of economic and environmental vitality. Clean water, vibrant wildlife, and resilient habitats support robust recreation, tourism, and agriculture industries.
Unfortunately, Steelhead are often blocked from critical habitat. For nearly a century, a stream gage on Arroyo Grande Creek has obstructed Steelhead trout migration upstream. Without access to vital upstream habitat, the Steelhead population suffers.
With funding from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and the County of San Luis Obispo, we fixed that problem. We successfully lowered the stream gage concrete platform so fish can make the jump and access several miles of upstream habitat to spawn and thrive in AG Creek.
Now, we want to celebrate this achievement and the phenomenon of Steelhead in AG Creek with an "AG Creek Fish Migration Celebration." Join us on Thursday, April 3, from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm at 229 Stanley Avenue in Arroyo Grande. Our offices happen to be immediately adjacent to the Arroyo Grande Creek Stream Gage Modification project, so you can take the stairs to see the project first-hand.
Come check out our new interpretive sign, enjoy some fabulous newly commissioned artwork, and meet our team of scientists and educators. Snacks and refreshments from local businesses will be served. Cost: free!
Creek Lands Conservation (CLC) is a locally based not-for-profit, working since 1983 with local communities to protect and restore Central Coast biodiversity for people and wildlife.
We look forward to seeing you at the celebration!
