Songwriters at Play presents its first concert in the Event Room at Moonstone Cellars in Cambria. The Jan. 18 concert features L.A.'s Severin Browne, a former Motown recording artist and staff songwriter who continues to enchant audiences with his clear voice, masterful guitar playing and finely crafted songs. Opening the show is Seattle-based singer-songwriter Abby K. Tickets are $25 ($20 for Moonstone Wine Club Members). Show begins at 6pm.

With roots in pop, jazz, country, rock and R&B, Severin continues to surprise his acoustic audiences with surprisingly catchy  melodies. Severin’s father, Jack, a jazz musician, taught him to love and appreciate music from an early age. His first instrument was the accordion. He also played drums in the Garvanza Elementary school orchestra (where brother Jackson played cornet). By high school, in the 1960s, Severin was playing guitar. At age 21, he signed a deal to write songs for Jobete Music Company, the publishing arm of Motown Records. He released his first two albums with Motown: “Severin Browne” in 1973 and “New Improved Severin Browne” in 1974.

Severin's songs were recorded by Thelma Houston, Patti Dahlstrom, Colin Blunstone, Twiggy, The Dillards and Pamala Stanley, who had a Billboard #15 hit with Severin’s “I Don’t Want To Talk About It.” He continues to write, record and perform solo, as well as with the band called Tall Men Group. Abby K draws upon many influences in her music from her childhood days in Kentucky and conveniently short-hands her music as "Heart-Rock". After two decades in the Windy City, where she was exposed to the extremes of weather and musical influences, she has moved her act to Seattle where she performs regularly, including Seattle's NW Folk Life Festival in 2017 and 2019. https://abbykmusic.com/

Songwriters at Play produces live music events at many Central Coast venues, including weekly songwriter showcases and monthly song contests at Schooners in Cayucos, and tribute concerts at the Cambria Center for the Arts (a tribute to the music of Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton will be on Sunday Jan. 15).
