O Canada! Songwriters at Play celebrates the music of Gordon Lightfoot and Sarah McLachlan, with a tribute concert on Sunday, January 26. Show begins at 2pm, at the Cambria Center for the Arts Theatre. Tickets are $25 general admission ($20 for CCA members).
Gordon Lightfoot was a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist who achieved international success in folk, folk-rock, and country music. He is credited with helping to define the folk-pop sound of the 1960s and 1970s. Sarah McLachlan has sold over 40 million albums worldwide. Her best-selling album to date is Surfacing, for which she won two Grammy Awards and four Juno Awards.
The performers in the Jan. 26 tribute include Central Coast musicians Donna Phillips, Holly Ann Lewis, Theresa Layne; Carpinteria's The Dennis & Laura Show, NorCal newcomer Lola Guthrie, and L.A.-based artists Katie Ferrara, Paul Inman's Delivery, Kern Richards, Steve Bannon, and Mike Berman.
The concert is produced by Songwriters at Play, husband-wife team, Steve Key and Bonnie Nelson-Key. They have produced many tribute concerts at CCAT, featuring the music of Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Willie Nelson, and more. They also host song contests, in which the top 10 winners are invited to play at CCAT next April 12 for a Grand Prize of $1,000.
