Event Summary
I beg your Parton, Dolly turns 77 this January? Let's celebrate!

What did Willie and Dolly have in common? Both got a boost early in their careers from Mae Boren Axton, called the Queen Mother of Nashville for her music promotion and public relations work. Mae is credited with getting Elvis Presley signed to RCA Records, and co-writing his hit, "Heartbreak Hotel". Mae was also the mother of Hoyt Axton, writer of many '60s hits such as Greenback Dollar, Joy To The World, and Never Been to Spain. Continuing the Axton legacy is Matt Axton, Mae's grandson and Hoyt's son. Matt is a rising star on the Americana music scene, and joins us to perform Dolly and Willie's songs. https://mattaxton.com/

On Saturday, Jan. 14, Songwriters at Play will bring together a stellar lineup of local and touring artists to perform the songs of Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson. Tickets for the 2pm concert at Unity of Santa Maria are $20.

The Jan. 14 lineup also includes L.A.-based Americana artist Pi Jacobs, Bay Area balladeer Aireene Espiritu, Oklahoma native Taylor C. Lewis, Bradly Coats and Chris Mariscal of the Jolon Station Band, Santa Barbara's Will Breman and Bradberri, and Central Coast-based singer-songwriters Mindy May, and Ricky Berger.

Sing along to Dolly hits like Jolene, Wildflowers, and Coat of Many Colors, plus Willie favorites such as Crazy, Pancho & Lefty, Always on My Mind, and Funny How Time Slips Away.
